Thank you for all your prayers and emails, they've been a great source of comfort and encouragement to us.
Here's a short version of Daniel's status.
Daniel is making some progress. He's been hospitalized with IV for two days now and his fevers are not as frequent and the temperatures are not as high as before. He is also staying awake for longer periods of time now, though still too weak to lift his head or to sit up. We understand now that it may take about a week's time for small children to recover from this type of condition. Though he is making baby steps toward recovery, we are elated for every small progress he's making.
Here's a long version.
The last few days have felt like someone pushed a "reset" button on Daniel. Even though he just turned one year old a few days ago, the fever seemed to have made him unlearn all the things he's learned to do in the last 12 months. For a few nights he was waking up crying about every 20minutes, he was too weak to lift his head or open his eyes sometimes. He would cry as if in pain unless we hold him to sleep and he slept most of the day. He couldn't really drink from the bottle so we had to squirt small amounts of milk and water into his mouth to help keep him hydrated.
Since you started praying for us, he was able to sleep through most of last night and he no longer needed us to hold him to sleep. His fevers are also responding to medication faster than before. Even though certain numbers are high from his second blood test today, he is improving in almost every area. This afternoon, he was willing to drink about 2oz of milk on his own which was a great improvement from just a couple of sips earlier this week. Before bedtime tonight, he drank about 5-6 ounces on his own.
It's strange to think that the smiley baby who just started learning to walk is now laying helpless and unable to lift his head. But at the same time all this has caused us to reflect on how amazing God is in how he created us in all it's complexity and mystery.
Thank you for all your prayers, it's making all the difference. :)
